Decisions, decisions

Ok, I’ve got a small issue.  No…WE have a big issue.  Of course, as always, it involves finances (doesn’t it always?)

This fall, I am going to the “mouse neighborhood in Florida” for a company thing.  I don’t know many details about it, just the dates and the location.  And even that is not set yet.  But hey, MNIF is where T & I spent our honeymoon!  And it would most likely be warmer than here!  And we were moaning that we weren’t taking a trip this year!!

So here’s our dilemma:  Do I extend my time in MNIF and fly T down for a long weekend?  Or do we save our nickles and dimes and do things that we really need to do to the house?  You know, things like carpeting, furniture, possibly putting drywall up in the basement, flooring for basement, etc.

The extended trip to MNIF would probably cost us about $1500.  That’d be for T’s plane trip, hotel, car rental, incidentals.

Another thing to consider is whatever placement we might have at that time.  We wouldn’t be able to afford to bring the child along with us, and s/he would be placed into respite.  But we also need to have some reserves for daycare, clothing, etc.

I hate decisions like this!  At this point, we’re leaning towards “no”.  But part of us really, really wants to go.

Any thoughts?

In the midst of all this…

…guess who we saw at the store Monday night?  I swear, it was a blast from the past.

None other than the Crazy Tree Guy!!

We avoided him.  But you know that deep inside, we wanted to pull him out of his brand new truck and ask where our money was for calling an electrictian after hours.

Question of the week

I promise, very soon, to have pictures of the kitchen.  It needs to be cleaned, but yeah, we’ll have pics of the kitchen.  Contractor is installing the last of the trim pieces today, and the fridge door has been replaced.

I can’t tell you how much we’re enjoying it!  It’s just so beautiful, and there’s more storage room.  It just feels so much bigger!

And we’re enjoying cooking (when we have time) in the new digs.  T’s done some baking, and I’ve done some cooking.  And everything has turned out pretty well, whether it’s something we’ve made from a recipe or something we’ve whipped up on our own.

Which leads me to this week’s question:  How do you cook?  Do you follow a recipe?  Do you use a recipe as a guide, and wing it?  Or do you prefer to bake?

I don’t bake much.  It just doesn’t turn out well for me!  But I love to cook.  I love changing things around with flavor, etc.  Like a friend of mine said, “I cook it like the recipe once, and I always change it after that.”

It’s official

Today, we finally take delivery of the new fridge.  We’ll be LEAPING into the 90’s with an icemaker, even.  Imagine that…an icemaker that doesn’t run back and forth from the sink, muttering “damnit, I thought YOU filled these things!”  After that, the kitchen will finally be complete! (yes, we’ll get pics…soon!)

Speaking of ice, we had a bit of it outside this weekend.  T & I were the lucky ones, and didn’t lose power at all.  Some around here have been out since Saturday, and may not get powered up for several days.  Mother Nature did some damage, that’s for sure.  Snow, freezing rain, sleet, ice, etc.  I’m still not up for moving to Texas…yet.

And it wouldn’t be winter if I didn’t fall on my a$$.  It finally happened this morning.  It’s officially winter, and I can’t stand it.

Almost there!

Almost there!

Not quite done yet, but it’s looking so much better than it did a few weeks ago!!

The pictures just don’t do it justice. Who wants to stop by for dinner when it’s all done?

Yes, there is a small “spot” on the side, but should be an easy fix. However, I think I’m in love with the countertops!

Ahhh…bliss!

So much better than before, don’t you think?

Yes, I know it’s been a while since I posted a construction update. But here you go. We have nice green walls, we have wall cabs up, and we’ve got a little bit of tile laid out.

Full set here.

Soon, we’ll have base cabinets, the rest of the tile, and countertops!

Brrr!

We are well into our kitchen remodeling.  The plumber stopped by to replace our sink drain.  You would not believe the amount of buildup in there!  YIKES!

But this morning, we got a rather chilly surprise.  Somehow in the course of yesterday’s activities, the pilot light to the water heater went out.  So we ended up with very tepid showers this morning.

In other construction news, we had a bit of a panic when we learned our old fridge won’t fit in the new kitchen.  Crisis averted, because the new fridge is 3 inches narrower than the old.  WHEW!

What a difference a day makes!

This time tomorrow, the yellow kitchen will be history!

You don’t know how happy that makes us.  I’m so tired of this yellow, 70’s kitchen.  Soon, we’ll have a pretty kitchen with more storage space.

This is a good thing, even if it is going to take a few weeks of electric wok cooking.
